{"product_id":"olivetti-lettera-22-typewriter-with-case-renewed-restored-ready-to-type","title":"Olivetti Lettera 22 Typewriter","description":"Subtle and yet full of character, the Lettera 22 is a classic among portable typewriters. This one was made in Glasgow in 1957 and types very nicely in pica at 12 characters per inch. Its nice lines and compact design won the Lettera 22 the Compasso d'Oro Prize in 1954, and since then the typewriter has been a favourite among journalists, writers and typewriter aficionados.\n\nThe paint on this Lettera 22 has been cleaned, polished, and waxed with protective museum-grade wax. The paint of the ribbon cover is slightly darker than that of the rest of the body. The paint is in good shape, with some wear at the front corners (a common issue on Lettera 22s, from the corners rubbing against the metal reinforcements inside the leatherette case) and a little bit of fading to the paint below the spacebar. There are also some marks to the upper edge of the left side of the typewriter, a small scratch on the paperplate beneath the left paper support, and a graze to the silver paint on the right end of the carriage. The price reflects these imperfections. \n\nPlease zoom in on the photos to better view these areas. If you would like further photos of any area, please get in touch.\n\nAll nickel and chrome-plated pieces have been polished with metal polish and are in good shape. The foldable nickle-plated carriage return arm, quite a unique and smart design, is in good shape. The plastic platen knobs and keytops are in good condition, with the keytops having been removed from the machine and individually polished with plastic polish.\n\nThis Lettera 22 has been dismantled and the internal mechanics have been cleaned with a suitable solvent. The escapement of this Lettera 22 was completely dismantled, cleaned and adjusted to ensure a mechanical performance in line with the typewriter's lovely exterior. A light application of lubrication has been added where necessary.\n\nThe platen and feed rollers have been cleaned with rubber rejuvinator - the platen has hardened with age, as is the case with many vintage typewriters, and a backing sheet of paper can be used to soften the typing experience (although, the typebars of Lettera 22s strike pretty lightly to begin with). The feed rollers are in good, soft condition and grip paper well. As such, it is easy to insert new pieces of paper and carry on writing. The original rubber feet were in poor condition and so have been replaced with replicas made from new rubber cut and ground down to size (actually fabricated by Ian over at the Etsy shop 'TypewriterCellar' - I recommend stopping by his shop!). The replica feet grip tabletops well. \n\nMechanically this Lettera 22 is in fine form - the basket shift is light, and the silent carriage return is steady and smooth. The bell rings, margins work, and the touch control under the ribbon cover provides a slight increase or decrease in the pressure needed from fingers to type. The backspace, shift-lock, margin release, automatic ribbon reverse, line space selector and variable line spacing knob all work as intended. Note, there is no tabulator on this version of the Lettera 22.\n\nThe case is in acceptable condition and has been lightly cleaned. Its exterior is worn and has some marks, as shown in the photos. The zips both work, but there is a little bit of separation between the zippers and leatherette case on each back corner of the case. The inside of the case has also been lightly cleaned and blown out - there are some ink marks, particularly where the case hinges. The brown leather strap closes at its button, and the handles are in sturdy condition and can be used to carry the closed case. \n\nThis typewriter prints pica typeface in 12 cpi (characters per inch) in black or red. A new ribbon has been installed, and the print quality is very good.\n\nThis Lettera 22 will be carefully packaged in a well-sized cardboard box with signed-for delivery and insurance.\n\nDimensions(w x l x h): 27 x 37 x 10 cm (height includes the carriage return lever folded out for use); weight - 3.7 kg\n\nPlease review the estimated dates of delivery below before purchase. Please inquire if you require such shipment, and I'll be happy to work with you!\n\nI enjoy refurbishing typewriters as well as typing on them. My process of reconditioning typewriters is a sympathetic one: careful cleaning, lubrication, adjustment and repairs when necessary. I sell typewriters that I have regularly used for writing; if not, they have gone through thorough testing to make sure they are up to writing speed. If you have any questions about the typewriter or what you're after, please let me know.","brand":"The Write Typer","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":57873549984075,"sku":null,"price":172.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/1046\/5624\/0971\/files\/8c7baefa-il_fullxfull.7163669382_1hng.jpg?v=1784133536","url":"https:\/\/thewritetyper.com\/products\/olivetti-lettera-22-typewriter-with-case-renewed-restored-ready-to-type","provider":"The Write Typer","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
